Agentic workflows

Data and Interoperability

Definition

Agentic workflows are software processes in which artificial intelligence agents act on data rather than simply reporting it. In clinical supply, that means resolving exceptions, raising orders, flagging risks and updating records automatically, with humans in the loop for decisions that need clinical or commercial judgement.

Why it matters

Most healthcare technology today produces reports for someone else to act on. Agentic workflows close the gap between insight and action. They are particularly relevant in clinical supply chain, where the cost of delayed action (a recall not removed from inventory, a contract price not enforced, an expiry not caught) is measured in patient risk or wasted spend rather than just inconvenience.
