The problem

You cannot manage what you cannot see

Hospitals carry an extraordinary range of stock: low-cost consumables, high-value implants, consignment and loan sets, tissue, medicines and equipment. Most of it is managed with manual counts, par levels set years ago and a storeroom view that stops at the department door.

And because nobody has a reliable picture of what is held, working capital stays tied up on shelves that finance cannot see.

The symptoms are familiar. Shelves overflow with items nobody uses while the item a surgeon needs is out of stock. Products expire unnoticed. Consignment stock is used but not recorded. Clinical staff spend hours counting and chasing instead of caring for patients.

Scanning products before surgery improves patient safety by reducing the risk of human error and, due to automatic electronic stock replacement processes, reduces the likelihood of operations being cancelled. Staff morale has also been increased because they can spend more time caring for patients, rather than on the reordering and re-equipping of stores.

Two staff walk the storerooms with clipboards. Counts are keyed into the system later, already out of date.

Deliveries are checked against the PO by hand. Lot and expiry data are not recorded anywhere.

An expired pack is found in an OR cupboard by chance, weeks after it should have been removed.

A loan set goes back to the vendor with an implant missing and no record of where it went.

Orders are based on habit. One storeroom is overstocked while another runs out.

Stock levels are already current from scans at receipt and at use. There is nothing to count.

Goods are receipted on scan, with GS1 lot, serial and expiry captured automatically and PO discrepancies flagged at the dock.

Items approaching expiry are flagged weeks ahead so they can be rotated, used first or returned.

Consigned, owned and trial stock are tracked with change of custody, and use is captured at the point of care.

Par level recommendations come from actual consumption, with purchase orders generated into the ERP.

How Genesis closes the gap

Inventory control is not one count. It is a record that has to hold from the dock to the patient, for every kind of stock the hospital carries.

01

One record for every kind of clinical stock

Consumables, implants, medicines, PPE and consignment stock on one record, from receipt to the patient. Material management, implant tracking, consignment management and recall management are included.

Track tissue and equipment with the same rigor

Complete chain of custody for tissue from donor to patient, with storage condition monitoring. Care-critical equipment is tracked as it moves, with maintenance and replacement schedules built in.

01

Capture consumption where it happens

A single scan at the point of use updates stock, records the item to the patient and captures the charge, so the inventory record reflects what was actually used rather than what was assumed.

Right-size par levels with real data

Dashboards for stock value, expiry exposure and consumption by location show where working capital is tied up and where par levels can safely come down.

Frequently Asked Questions

ERPs manage supplies up to the warehouse. Genesis extends visibility and control into the clinical setting, with implant tracking to the patient, tissue chain of custody, recall traceability and scanning at the point of use.

Yes. Owned, consigned and trial stock are visible together, with change of custody tracking for every item.

Yes. Genesis is purpose-built for GS1 scanning. UDIs, lot numbers, serial numbers and expiry dates are captured in a single scan.

Par level recommendations are based on actual consumption patterns and supplier turnaround, so working capital can be released without increasing stockout risk.

Genesis maintains a central recall repository sourced from the FDA, with the ability to load manufacturer-direct recalls. Recalled items are flagged the moment they are scanned anywhere in the system.

Yes. Inventory can run standalone or as part of the wider platform. Many customers start with Inventory and expand from there.
