Item master
Data and Interoperability
Definition
An item master is the authoritative record of every product a hospital uses, with its identifiers, descriptions, unit of measure, supplier and contract data. A clean, accurate item master is the foundation of every reliable supply chain, clinical and financial process.
Why it matters
Without an accurate item master, every downstream process runs on bad data. Procurement contracts the wrong items. Inventory reports the wrong quantities. Clinical reporting attributes the wrong cost to the wrong procedure. Item master management is unglamorous work, but it is the single most important data foundation in any hospital supply chain.
