Preference card

Clinical Supply Chain

Definition

A preference card is the record of which products and equipment a specific clinician prefers for a specific procedure. Accurate preference cards reduce waste, shorten case preparation time and improve clinical and financial reporting.

Why it matters

When preference cards are accurate and up to date, cases run smoothly. When they are out of date, the result is wasted product, longer case preparation and friction between supply chain and clinical teams. Preference card accuracy is one of the highest-leverage operational improvements available in a procedural setting, and is best maintained continuously through point of care capture rather than retrospective edits.
