Recall management
Clinical Supply Chain
Definition
Recall management is the process of identifying, locating and acting on medical products that have been withdrawn from use by their manufacturer or by regulators. Effective recall management protects patient safety and reduces clinical and financial risk.
Why it matters
When a recall is issued, hospitals need to know three things quickly: do we have any of this product, where is it, and have any patients already received it. Traditional recall management is manual, paper-based and slow. Modern recall management uses connected supply chain and clinical data to answer those three questions in hours rather than days, and to prevent the recalled product being requisitioned, dispensed or used in further care.
