Scan4Safety
Compliance and Regulatory
Definition
Scan4Safety is the NHS programme that uses GS1 barcoding standards to improve patient safety, clinical productivity and supply chain efficiency. It works by scanning three things at the point of care: the product, the patient and the place where care is delivered.
Why it matters
When something goes wrong with a medical device, knowing which patient received which product, in which procedure, by which clinician, can be the difference between hours of investigation and seconds. Scan4Safety is the foundation that makes that visibility possible across the NHS.
