Spend analytics

Sourcing and Procurement

Definition

Spend analytics is the analysis of purchasing data to identify patterns, opportunities and risks across categories, suppliers, locations and time. Useful spend analytics combines clean transaction data with contract data and clinical context.

Why it matters

Most hospitals have plenty of spend data. The challenge is making it analysable. Inconsistent supplier names, duplicate item records and disconnected systems mean that a basic question like 'how much do we spend with this supplier across the group' can take days to answer reliably. Clean underlying data is what makes spend analytics genuinely useful.
